A Quick Update on the Devon and Leah Still Story: His Jersey Is Flying Off The Shelves and He's Now On The Active Roster

ESPN – Devon Still continues to have the feel-good story in professional sports. Late Monday, the Cincinnati Bengals announced via their website they were donating all proceeds from sales of Still’s jersey to pediatric cancer research. Less than 24 hours later, a team official told ESPN.com that more of the defensive tackle’s black No. 75 jerseys had been sold in that time span than any jersey featuring any other Bengals player ever. Still was also signed off the practice squad to the active roster Monday, according to his agent, Drew Rosenhaus.

I’m sure most of you remember Devon Still’s story but if you don’t, here’s a quick rundown. Still was originally cut by the Bengals but Cincinnati later signed him to the practice team so he’d be able to pay for his 4-year-old’s medical bills as she was recently diagnosed with cancer. As if that move wasn’t classy enough, the Bengals now put together a jersey auction which is donating all proceeds to pediatric cancer research. This is a great little feel-good story to wake up to on a morning when the NFL is somewhat in shambles over everything that’s been going on since Monday. So much is happening right now and the general perception of the NFL right now isn’t exactly a good one; especially so for Goodell and the Ravens. But for the past couple weeks now, the Bengals have continued to make right move after right move and that’s pretty special. You also gotta give a tip of the cap to the Cincinnati fan base for stepping up to the plate on this one. It’s awesome to see an entire community rally behind this man and his daughter’s fight. I’m sure there have been a shit ton of Ochocinco jerseys sold in a 24 hour time span before, so I can’t imagine it was easy for Still’s jersey sales to surpass that. Hopefully his spot on the active roster will still allow him to spend enough time with his daughter while bringing in the financial assistance necessary to make sure they can do everything possible to keep Leah Still kicking the shit out of cancer.
